3 weeks ago, Power of Change was an organization to help those in need in other countries.
My friend Dylan is a huge supporter for this cause, and since he's a close friend of mine, I have to support him no matter what + It is a good cause when you hear about it from someone who has a true passion for it. However, I did not know these kinds of organizations mass spam mail towards people.
At one point I was in the washroom doing my #2, and a woman called me for 5 minutes talking about how I can help Power of change. I replied to her by flushing the toilet and saying bye bye.
Like it's kind of rude, but seriously if you call me 3 times a week, it's a piss off.
So you can tell I was pissed off from this letter... hmm... I keep saying pissed off but what can I use as a synonym? ticked off... enraged... hulk smash... anyways, so the letter is obviously a marketing scam.
Let's reflect about Non for profits for a moment, when you think about it only 20% or less go to the cause, 50-70% go towards marketing, which is outrageous. And personally I find these marketing tactics horrible by putting guilt on yourself that you are not helping a cause. [Now let me clear something up... not all but most are this format inorder to survive in our society] I do not have the stats at hand, but I did 2 years ago in marketing courses.
Like looking it from a student's perspective, I can't even survive on my current summer job salary for my university life in Ottawa, so how can I support someone in another country when my $10.00 will only become 2.00$ through the process of a Non for Profit organization. Like I remember the Japanese crisis, I helped out, I wanted to help ppl who I knew personally in Japan, but people gave up after a month which was disgusting. It's like they totally forgot about it. Seriously, that's the problem with people today, only helping out when the media spreads about it, but gives up leaving ppl hanging there because they assume they saved lives though it was only a moment. Ex. Rob for case, we throw money into something that's helping a drug dealer. WHY because the media says its the right thing to do. If you want to help understand why you're doing it, not by how media generalizes it for you, and keep helping out as much as you can... and money isn't the only way.
I proved that with my Lucky Star campaign.

The story, the moral, the way you let people understand why they need help, and how to create it is more important than the money itself. Unfortunately, Cancer society didn't progress with my idea as it didn't generate profit... which is understandable, at the same time its a shame.
The film was also rejected in a contest due to the fact it was categorized as poorly constructed. But I guess some people don't want to see a film in the producer's perspective and judge by appearance only, which is a fair way to judge...
But that's how I thought of only a few organizations to help... especially Sick Kids hospital... it's my favourite non for profit organization in the world, and some day I want to be the CEO of the organization to help save lives.
Dam i get off track easily... so let's get back to this story specifically. So the letter is more of a guilt trip... so I ignored it....
Anywho so 2 weeks later from the first letter, my friend Rickey told me I received another letter stating, I changed the world... Like wow poor making there.
So if you put both letters side by side it looks like I made a difference :D
By doing nothing.
